Born in 1970 Mr Cunningham began drawing and sculpting fantastic creatures in his garage at Lakenheath, Suffolk while still being a teen. He soon ditched Art College to immerse himself in special effects and filmmaking. By 19 he was already working with animatronics, sculpting caricatures and in 1990 he led the FX crew for David Fincher’s Aliens 3, then worked with Kubrick (1995) on A.I. and finally directed his first musical video for Warp Records: Autechre’s “Second Bad Vibel”.
The first of a long list of critically acclaimed music vids.

His work is many times influenced by his obsession of the confluence of human anatomy and robotic machinery (“pornography and technology,” he laughs): Erotic robots for Björk’s “All Is Full of Love”, battling bodies for his “Flex” short film…. Much of it has been censored or is definitely not mainstream.
He is our second attractive figure for his inhuman way of conceiving human beings; his repulsive yet sometimes fragile creatures whose eyes are always full of curiosity, and obviously his distortion of reality or comprehension of what some people call evil.
