↓ Profile: Banksy

Everything around him remains a mystery, everything apart from his political graffiti’s.  Robin Banks the son of a photocopier technician … Robin Gunningham son of a contracts manager … born in 1973, 74 or 75? Who knows? Who cares!

Although not being able to put a face or a name to one of the most important artists of the last two decades has to be very frustrating for all the media. Provocative, Inspirational… he’s all that and much more.

His street art combines graffiti writing with a distinctive stencilling technique similar to the Parisian Blek le Rat or Crass. His art has appeared in cities around the world although many say (and most accept) he originally started in the Bristol underground scene during the aerosol boom of the late 80s.

For us Banksy is an attractive figure for his direct messages. We don’t care if was a schoolboy from a middle-class suburbia or a butcher, we completely agree with his humorous (sometimes too acid) slogans and anti-war pieces.

Well Bristol’s Museum just inaugurated his biggest exhibition up-to-date.

Surrounded in secrecy aura (as it had to be), museum director Kate Brindley and his team have managed to keep their plans from the Bristol City Council chiefs until yesterday. Hopefully it’s too late for them to refuse this exhibition. Kate says she hasn’t even met Banksy as she’s only been in contact with his representative (who “is not even sure” about his identity).

Bravo once again to this “controversial” but politically committed artist.

See you @ Rennes
