Avner, the lost android

Last December Sincerely Yours unveiled the latest clip from Avner’s album “Lyssna”, a video directed by Annika Aschberg & Jenny Palén which may have not become an instant hit (none of SY artists have) but raises the Swedish music scene prestige even higher.

Avner’s debut album is like gliding, or even better… like any of those floating experiences from the retro-futuristic 80s sci-fi films filled with existentialist Nexus-6 androids, moon miners & big brothers. Classic yet modern music from a past time which comes to demonstrate & claim (once again) how prolific & creative the Vikings have gotten lately. Those Jens Lekmans, Nordoplens or Tough Alliances caress melodies with very particular arrangements that seem to have defined the instantly recognisable melodies northern Europe (especially Sweden) keeps releasing.

A bit select, nostalgic, futuristic & high-class (sometimes spoiled) music scene which Avner represents with all his credentials.

The magic sound factory Sincerely Yours brings us this time “The Yellow Artist” (as he likes to call himself). Avner is a bit obsessed with his looks, an aristocratish-snobish ego with embroidered wide belts, sticks, bare chests, velvet jackets and those facial yellow stripes which play an important part in his “cool” image.

Lyssna is a naive album which talks about lost loves, anxiety, fears and dreams summarizing a whole life in just 28 minutes. A very condensed introspection into Avner’s thoughts which sweats sincere feelings

If you’re into reflexive half-instrumental albums with narcotic effects then Lyssna is probably the purest sound you’ll get from last year…. not suitable for kids, you may want to listen & watch those elegant 8 tracks and clips several times before actually reaching your inner peace (as we’ve always said… you have to try an album at least 4-5 times before judging it).

Probably those Swedish lyrics won’t make much sense at first (here are the translated lyrics) but who cares, feelings are an international language.

See you @ Bristol

We find Brendan Wenzel’s human illustrations are funnily enough similar to Hugo Pratt’s style… a mere coincidence that he studied at the Pratt Institute? (although it’s not related at all). He’s probably more well known for his fauna & flora illustrations…

If we could sit and observe  all the creatures our subconscious imagines we wouldn’t probably understand a thing…. a very symbolic & relaxing piece by Kitty Crowther and Bruno SalAmone with music by Sissi Lewi.

We’ve heard so many times this one. We even have it as our mobile ringtone! Unfortunately this video directed by Trevor Jackson is quite deceiving to be honest…. so many months for this? We guess is kind of matching Matias Aguayo’s continuous samplified sounds.

Some chopping boards are just that. Others like this “puzzleboard” reformulate the traditional conception of the vulgar piece of wood into a versatile tool (today everything tends to be multifunctional…).
